Albumbox Terms of Use
Last updated: 9 October 2026
The short version: Scanning, creating albums, and cropping, rotating and labeling your photos is free and needs no account. You only pay for Albumbox Plus, which is how your photos leave the app: saving, sharing and exporting as a photo book. Your photos remain yours and are stored only on your device, so please back them up yourself. You can cancel a subscription at any time with Apple or Google. The sections below are what count.
1. Scope and provider
These terms apply to the Albumbox app for iPhone and Android. They also apply to the album pages that open from a shared link (addresses under https://albumbox.app/s/).
In German, the same app is called “Fotokiste”. It is the same app from the same provider, and the same rules apply.
The provider is PL Core GmbH, Rohrbacher Str. 5/7, 69115 Heidelberg, Germany, represented by its managing director Philipp Längle, registered in the commercial register of the Amtsgericht (Local Court) Mannheim under HRB 755445, VAT ID DE457838784. You can reach us by email at hello@albumbox.app. More details are in our imprint at https://albumbox.app/imprint.
In these terms, “we” and “us” mean PL Core GmbH. “You” means the person using Albumbox.
2. Agreement and license
When you download and use Albumbox, you enter into an agreement with us on using the app under these terms. You pay nothing for the free features.
We allow you to use the app on your devices within these terms. This permission is non-exclusive and non-transferable. The rights to the app itself, meaning its software, design and text, stay with us or our licensors.
You buy Albumbox Plus and credits from Apple or Google. See section 4.6.
3. What is free
You can do all of this without an account, without a time limit and free of charge for good: scan as much as you like, create, name, sort and browse albums, crop and rotate photos, add dates and descriptions, delete scans and import pictures.
Detecting, cropping, straightening and enhancing your photos while scanning is free as well. It runs on your device.
We will not start charging for these features later. There is no daily limit. The app shows no ads.
All your scans always stay visible in the app, also without Plus and after you cancel. In the app, we never remove, lock, hide or shrink anything you scanned, and we never add a watermark.
4. Albumbox Plus
4.1 What Plus includes
Albumbox Plus is how your photos leave the app. With Plus, you can save photos and whole albums to the Photos app (iPhone) or the Gallery (Android). You can send photos to other apps through your phone’s share menu, for example to a messaging app or your email. You can share albums with family and friends by link (section 8), and you can export albums as a PDF photo book.
When you start Plus for the first time, we also give you a one-time gift of 3 credits for restoring (section 5).
4.2 Plans and prices
Plus comes in three plans. Each plan unlocks the same features.
Yearly subscription: €39.99 per year. It starts with a 3-day trial (section 4.3).
Monthly subscription: €14.99 per month.
One-time purchase: €79.99 once for 3 years. This is not a subscription. It does not renew and ends by itself 3 years after you buy it. Nothing more is charged after that.
Prices are in euros. The price that applies is the one the App Store or Google Play shows you before you buy. Outside the euro area, it is shown in your local currency.
4.3 Trial
The yearly subscription starts with a 3-day trial. The 3 days are free, and after that the yearly subscription costs €39.99 per year.
If you cancel during the trial, you pay nothing, and Plus ends when the trial ends. If you don’t cancel, the paid yearly subscription at €39.99 per year starts after 3 days. Apple or Google charges you.
Under Apple’s and Google’s rules, the trial is usually available only once per Apple Account or Google Account.
4.4 Renewal and cancellation
The yearly and monthly subscriptions renew automatically for another year or month until you cancel.
You can cancel at any time without giving a reason. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period, and Plus stays active until then. There is no partial refund for the current period. This does not affect your rights under section 4.7.
You cancel in your Apple account (in iPhone Settings) or with Google (in Google Play). In the app, “Manage or cancel subscription” in Profile and in Settings takes you straight there.
To be sure a renewal is not charged, cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the period or the trial. Apple may charge a renewal within those last 24 hours.
Deleting the app does not end a subscription. Neither does “Delete my data”.
The one-time purchase needs no cancellation. It ends by itself after 3 years.
4.5 When Plus ends
Plus ends when the period of a canceled subscription is over, when you canceled the trial and it is over, when the 3 years of the one-time purchase are over, or when Apple or Google refunds a Plus purchase.
Your photos and albums then stay in the app, complete and unchanged. You keep using everything free from section 3 as before. Your credits stay as well.
From then on, shared links show a note instead of the photos, saying the link is not active right now. The photos behind these links stay on our server until you delete the link or the album. When Plus is active again, the same links work again.
4.6 Purchase, payment and price changes
You buy Plus and credits in Apple’s App Store or on Google Play. Apple or Google is the seller. The purchase contract, payment, invoice and subscription billing all run through your Apple or Google account and under their terms.
Your payment details stay with Apple or Google. We don’t see them. We only learn what you bought and whether your subscription is active. We provide the Plus features and restoring under these terms.
If the price of a subscription changes, the new price only applies from the next period. Apple or Google tells you beforehand and asks for your consent where their rules require it. You can cancel before the change. A period you have already paid for and a one-time purchase you have already paid for do not change.
4.7 Withdrawal and refunds
Depending on where you live, you may have a legal right of withdrawal as a consumer. Because Apple or Google is the seller, you exercise this right with Apple or Google. Whether it applies, how long it lasts and when it ends early is set out in Apple’s or Google’s terms and withdrawal information.
To request a withdrawal or a refund, use “Report a Problem” at https://reportaproblem.apple.com for Apple, or your order history in Google Play for Google. Apple and Google decide on refunds under their own rules. If something isn’t right, write to us at hello@albumbox.app. We’ll help where we can.
If Apple or Google refunds a purchase, what you bought with it no longer applies. For Plus, section 4.5 applies. We deduct refunded credits from your balance.
Your statutory rights, for example if something is defective, are not affected.
5. Credits for restoring
5.1 What restoring is
Restoring means removing scratches and tears from a photo (repairing) or colorizing a black and white or sepia photo. It costs one credit per photo and per job, and it needs an account (section 6).
The app refreshes faded colors in color photos on your device. That needs no credit. Enhancing while scanning stays free as well.
5.2 Adding credits
Credits are separate from Plus. You add them in packs of 25, 100 or 500 credits. Each pack is a one-time purchase through Apple or Google, not a subscription. Sections 4.6 and 4.7 apply to purchase, payment, withdrawal and refunds.
When you start Plus for the first time, including the trial, we give you 3 credits once.
5.3 Rules for credits
Credits never expire. They belong to your account. They cannot be paid out as money or transferred to another account.
If you choose “Delete my data”, your credits are deleted as well. The app shows you beforehand how many credits you still have.
5.4 When a credit is used and when you get it back
The credit is deducted when a job starts. You get it back if the job fails, if you cancel it, or if the photo had hardly any damage.
If you don’t like a finished result, the credit has been used. This does not affect your statutory rights.
5.5 What to expect from the result
Restoring is automatic editing by software. The result may differ from what you expect. When colorizing, the software estimates the colors. They may not match the real colors of the time.
Every edit creates a new version. Your original is always kept, and you can go back to it at any time.
For restoring, only that one photo goes to our server in the European Union and from there to a service provider that does the editing. Which provider that is and when the files are deleted is explained in our privacy policy at https://albumbox.app/privacy.
6. Account
An account is optional. You can use everything free from section 3 without one. You don’t need an account for Plus either. Your purchase is linked to your Apple or Google account. On a new device, you get it back with “Restore purchases” in Settings.
You need an account for restoring and for credits. You sign in with Apple, with Google or with a code we send you by email. Make sure only you have access to that Apple Account, Google Account or email inbox.
If you create a link for the first time without an account, the app quietly sets up an anonymous account so the link has an owner. You don’t need to enter anything. If you sign in later, your account takes over this quiet account and its links. We delete unused quiet accounts without links after 30 days.
Delete my data
In Settings, you’ll find “Delete my data”. It releases your account, your shared albums and your credits on our server for deletion. Your links stop working right away. The app also deletes everything on this device, including all photos and albums.
The app tells you this clearly beforehand and asks you to confirm. Deletion cannot be undone, so back up important photos first. It can take up to 30 days until everything is fully deleted from our server.
This does not end a running subscription. Cancel it first with Apple or Google (section 4.4).
You can end your agreement with us at any time by choosing “Delete my data” or by deleting the app.
7. Your photos and content
7.1 Your photos remain yours
All rights to your photos, titles and descriptions stay with you. We only get the narrow permission described in section 7.4.
7.2 Please back up your photos yourself
Your photos and albums are stored only on your device, in the app. We don’t have a copy. If your device is lost or broken, or if you delete the app, the photos in the app are gone. We cannot recover them.
So please back up your photos yourself. With Plus, you can save photos and whole albums to the Photos app or the Gallery. On iPhone, the photos in the app are also part of your device’s iCloud backup if you have turned it on. Keep your paper photos until your scans are backed up.
For shared albums, a copy is stored on our server, but only as long as the link exists. This copy is not a backup.
7.3 Your responsibility for the photos
You are responsible for making sure you are allowed to use the photos you scan, share or have restored. This matters most for sharing. Photos taken by someone else and pictures from books or magazines may be protected by copyright.
Respect the rights of the people in the photos. Before you share photos of other people by link, ask the people shown if you are unsure, or their relatives if they have passed away.
7.4 The permission you give us
So that sharing and restoring work, you allow us to store, transfer and technically process the photos and details involved. For shared albums, this includes showing them to people with the link and making them available for download. For restoring, it includes the editing by our service provider.
This permission is non-exclusive and free of charge. It is limited to what is technically necessary. We only pass it on to service providers we use for exactly this purpose. We don’t use your photos for anything else, including advertising.
The permission ends when you delete the link, delete the album in the app or choose “Delete my data”. For restoring, it ends when the files are deleted from our server, no later than 7 days after the job. We can’t take back anything that people with the link downloaded before then.
8. Shared albums and the album page
8.1 How a link works
With Plus, you can share an album by link. You don’t need to sign in visibly for this (section 6). The app uploads the photos of the album, in the version you see in the app, together with its title, date and description to our server in the European Union. The album page also shows your name as “shared by” if the app knows it.
Anyone with the link can view the album on a web page and download all the photos, without the app and without an account. So only give the link to people who may see the photos. Passing on the link means passing on the album.
The link contains a random code that cannot be guessed. The album page does not appear in search engines and is not listed anywhere.
The album page is visible as long as the link exists and you have Plus. You can delete a link in the app at any time. The page is then no longer available, and the photos are deleted from our server. The same happens if you delete the album in the app. If Plus ends, the link shows a note instead of the photos (section 4.5).
8.2 What you may not share
You may not share illegal content by link. In particular, this includes depictions of child sexual abuse, depictions of violence that glorify or trivialize it, content that incites hatred or violence against people, and photos that infringe other people’s copyright or personal rights, such as pictures that expose or humiliate someone.
Historical family photos, for example from wartime, are not covered by this as long as they are not used to glorify violence or hatred.
We don’t check shared albums in advance. The person who shares an album is responsible for its content.
9. Reporting content
This section describes our notice and action procedure under the EU Digital Services Act.
9.1 How to report
Every album page has a “Report content” button at the bottom. It opens an email to hello@albumbox.app with the link’s code already filled in. You can also write to this address directly. You don’t need an account to report.
So that we can review your report, please tell us which link and which photo it is about, why you believe the content is illegal or breaks these terms, your name and email address, and that you believe in good faith that your information is accurate and complete. If you are reporting depictions of child sexual abuse, you don’t need to give your name.
9.2 What we review and do
We confirm that we received your report. A person reviews it promptly, carefully and impartially. We don’t use automated detection for this. We tell you our decision and the reasons for it.
If content is illegal or breaks these terms, we can block the link and remove individual photos or the whole shared album from our server. For serious or repeated violations, we can block sharing by link for the account concerned. We never touch the photos on your device.
We inform the person who shared the album about the decision and the reasons, as far as we can reach them, for example through the email address of their account.
If we learn of a criminal offense that threatens anyone’s life or safety, we inform the competent authorities.
9.3 Disagreeing with a decision
If you disagree with our decision, whether you reported the content or are affected by it, write to us at hello@albumbox.app within 6 months and give your reasons. A person will then review the decision again, and we will tell you the result. You can always go to court.
9.4 Point of contact
Our single point of contact for users, for authorities of EU member states and for the European Commission is hello@albumbox.app. You can write to us in English or German.
10. Availability
Scanning and everything free from section 3 runs on your device and does not need our servers.
We provide the server features, meaning sign-in, links and album pages, restoring, credits and checking purchases, with reasonable care. We cannot promise they are always available. There may be interruptions, for example for maintenance, security updates or problems at service providers or on the internet. We keep maintenance short and schedule it at quiet times where we can.
We keep developing the app and may change features. When we do, we won’t restrict the free features from section 3 or the scope of Plus during a paid period. For safe operation, you may need to update the app.
11. Liability
We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act and where we have given a guarantee.
For slight negligence, we are only liable if we breach an essential contractual obligation. An essential obligation is one that makes the agreement possible in the first place and that you can regularly rely on. In that case, our liability is limited to the foreseeable damage that is typical for this kind of agreement. Otherwise, we are not liable for slight negligence.
These rules also apply to our employees and agents.
Your photos are stored only on your device, so please back them up yourself (section 7.2). If data is lost through slight negligence, we are only liable for the effort it would have taken to restore it if you had backed it up regularly.
12. Minimum age
You may use Albumbox from the age of 16. Younger people need their parents’ consent. [confirm minimum age]
13. Changes to these terms
We only change these terms for a valid reason, for example new laws or court rulings, new features, or because Apple, Google or one of our service providers changes a process.
We announce changes in the app at least 6 weeks in advance. If you have an account with an email address, we also email you. We show you what is changing.
You can object to a change by emailing hello@albumbox.app up to the day it takes effect. If you don’t object and keep using the app after that day, the new terms apply. We point this out clearly in the announcement.
If you object, the previous terms continue to apply to you. If that is not reasonable for us for a server feature, for example because a service provider changed a process, we may end that feature for you at the end of the current paid period. Scanning and everything free on your device are not affected.
We only make changes that affect the scope of Plus or the free features to your disadvantage with your explicit consent. Changes that are only to your advantage apply right away.
14. App Store and Google Play
If you download Albumbox from the App Store, Apple’s terms also apply. Toward Apple, these terms serve as our own license agreement for end users. Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app or its support. [check: own EULA in App Store Connect or Apple’s standard EULA]
If you download Albumbox from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply.
15. Governing law and dispute resolution
These terms are governed by the law of the Federal Republic of Germany. If you are a consumer and your habitual residence is in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer protection laws of that country.
We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
16. Final provisions
If any provision of these terms is invalid, the rest remain valid. The statutory rules take the place of the invalid provision.
You can view, save and print these terms at any time at https://albumbox.app/terms.
