Help and contact
Here you find answers to common questions about Albumbox. If your question is missing, write to us. We reply as soon as we can.
How to reach us
Send an email to hello@albumbox.app.
You can also write to us right from the app. Open “Help and contact” in the menu or in your profile, choose a question and tap “Contact support” at the bottom. Your mail app opens with a message to us. It already contains your device, the system version, the Albumbox version and the app language. This helps us help you faster. The app never attaches photos.
Scanning
How do I scan an album page?
- Tap the red camera button at the bottom of the app.
- Hold your phone flat over the album page so all photos are fully in the picture.
- Press and hold the shutter until the circle is full. Albumbox then finds every photo on the page.
- Turn the page and scan the next one. When you are done, tap “Done” and save the photos to an album.
Tip: Daylight without shadows makes your photos look especially good.
Why does the app not find all photos?
Hold the phone a little higher so the whole album page is in the picture, and make sure the light has no shadows. Photos that are only partly in the picture are not cut out.
If photos lie very close together or overlap, the app sometimes takes them for one. Then tap the photo under “Your scans” and drag the corners under “Crop and rotate”.
The photo is blurry or has glare. What can I do?
First wipe the camera lens clean, it is often slightly smudged. Make sure the light is good, for example daylight from a window, and hold the phone still until the circle on the shutter is full.
If a sleeve over the photo reflects, tilt the phone a little until the bright spot disappears.
Saving and sharing
Where are my photos stored?
Your photos and albums are in Albumbox on your phone.
If you share an album by link, a copy is also stored with us so everyone with the link can see it. If you delete the link, this copy is deleted.
Important: If you delete the app, the photos in Albumbox are gone too. So save important albums to the Photos app (iPhone) or the gallery (Android) as well.
How do I save an album to the Photos app or the gallery?
Open the album and tap “Share” at the bottom. On iPhone, then tap “Save album to Photos”, on Android “Save album to gallery”. To save single photos, select them first with “Select”.
On iPhone, the first time, your phone asks whether Albumbox may add photos. Tap “Allow”.
How do I share photos with family and friends?
Send a single photo from the photo with “Share”, for example by WhatsApp or email.
Share a whole album by link. Tap “Shared” at the bottom and choose an album. Send the link to family, friends or anyone you like. Whoever gets it sees the photos on their phone or computer, without the app and without an account, and can download them.
The link is not listed anywhere and cannot be found in search engines. To stop sharing, open the album under “Shared” and tap “Delete link”. The album can then no longer be seen through the link, and the copy stored with us is deleted. Your photos stay in Albumbox.
Restoring and credits
What is the difference between improving and restoring?
Improving happens by itself. While scanning, Albumbox balances the colors, contrast and brightness of every photo. This happens on your phone and costs nothing.
You start restoring yourself, for one photo or up to 20 at once. There are two options. “Scratches and tears” removes scratches, tears, dust and stains, and uses 1 credit. “Color” colorizes black and white and sepia photos, and also uses 1 credit. In color photos, “Color” makes faded colors shine again, without a credit.
Tip: Remove scratches first, then colorize. The colors come out cleaner.
To restore, you sign in once.
Can I go back to the original?
Yes, your original always stays. Every edit creates a new version. Tap the label under the photo, for example “Repaired” or “Colorized”, and choose another version.
What are credits?
Credits are your balance for restoring. One is used per photo, for removing scratches as for colorizing. Credits do not expire and are separate from Albumbox Plus.
When Plus starts, we give you 3 credits. Top up more in the app under “Profile” and “Credits”, in packs of 25, 100 or 500. You pay through Apple or Google.
The credit is used when restoring starts. If it does not work, if you cancel or if a photo has hardly any damage, you get the credit back.
For credits you sign in once, because the balance belongs to your account.
Where does my photo go when restoring?
Only the one photo you restore goes encrypted to our service provider and is processed there. The photo and the result stay with us for at most 7 days, so the result also arrives when the app was closed. Then they are deleted.
All other photos stay on your phone. The privacy policy at https://albumbox.app/privacy names the service provider.
Plus and account
What is Albumbox Plus?
Scanning, creating albums, adding dates and descriptions and browsing are free and unlimited. Your scans always stay in the app, also without Plus.
With Plus you can also save photos and whole albums to the Photos app (iPhone) or the gallery (Android), share albums by link with family and friends and save albums as a PDF photo book.
With the yearly plan, the first 3 days are free, then it costs €39.99 per year. Plus is also available for €14.99 per month or without a subscription: a one-time €79.99 for 3 years. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. The one-time purchase ends by itself after 3 years. You pay through your Apple or Google account. Before you buy, the App Store or Google Play shows the price in your currency.
How do I cancel Albumbox Plus?
Open the settings in Albumbox and tap “Manage or cancel subscription”. You go straight to your subscriptions, on iPhone in the iPhone settings, on Android in the Play Store. You can cancel there. You can also cancel without the app, directly in your Apple or Google account.
Plus stays active until the end of the paid period. If you cancel during the trial, you pay nothing.
When Plus ends, all your scans stay in the app. Shared links then only show a notice. With Plus, the same link works again, and you do not need to send anything new.
I bought Plus, but the app does not show it.
Open the settings in Albumbox and tap “Restore purchases”. Your phone needs to be signed in with the same Apple Account or Google Account you paid with.
How do I get a refund?
You paid through Apple or Google, so refunds go through Apple or Google. Please request a refund there.
Do I need an account?
Not for scanning, saving or sharing.
You sign in once only for restoring, because your balance belongs to your account. With an account you also find your shared links on a new phone. If you sign in later, your existing links stay.
You can sign in with Google, with a code by email and, on iPhone, also with Apple.
How do I delete my data?
Open the settings in Albumbox and tap “Delete my data”. This deletes your account, your shared albums, your credits and all photos in Albumbox on this phone. Shared links stop working right away. Save important albums to the Photos app or the gallery first.
Your subscription does not end. Cancel it first under “Manage or cancel subscription”.
If you no longer have the app, write to us at hello@albumbox.app. Your rights over your data are explained in the privacy policy at https://albumbox.app/privacy.
Report content
Do you see photos on a shared album page that are illegal or violate your rights? Then please report them to us.
Tap “Report content” at the very bottom of the album page. Your mail app opens with a message to us that already names the album. You can also write to hello@albumbox.app yourself. Then paste the link to the album into the email.
Please tell us which photos you mean and why, in your view, they must not be shown, for example because they show you and you did not agree. With your name and email address, we can reply to you.
We confirm that we received your report and review it promptly. If the content is illegal or breaks our terms of use, we block the link. The album can then no longer be seen in the browser. We tell you our decision by email.
Legal
How we handle your data is explained in the privacy policy at https://albumbox.app/privacy. The rules for using the app are in the terms of use at https://albumbox.app/terms. Who offers Albumbox is stated in the legal notice at https://albumbox.app/imprint.
